Welcome to the world baby boy

DC arrived 3rd June 2009 at 8.45am. He is absolutely perfect.

Marmite & Tea will therefore be going on a baby break for the summer.

See you all in September.

Elsewhere

I am blogging elsewhere today, which I have never done before, so much excitement.

Jordyn at Ten Cents Notes is having a count down to the release of Twenty Boy Summer and is featuring guests blogs about summer.

So if you would like to read about my very dramatic flip flop loss and how that relates to true love hop over here

.

And if you’d like to comment that would be lovely because I do love comments.

10 days to go

I don’t quite know how we got from counting down in weeks to counting down in days! But the due date is rushing towards us. Both exciting and scary.

I am so ready for him to arrive now. Not just because I want to meet him, but because it has been unbearably hot here. Moving around has suddenly become quite a challenge. Everything exhausts me and I can’t sleep anymore either.

I shouldn’t moan though because I’ve had a pretty easy pregnancy, apart from the last few weeks and I know it will all be totally worth it. I just hope they can get that pain relief IV in quickly because having had some practice contractions I will need it!

To celebrate the start of summer I went to see Ghosts of Girlfriends past. I loved it, my friend didn’t, but I laughed and cried throughout. It’s kind of disposable but for a rom-com it does the job.

They previewed My sisters Keeper in the trailers. I haven’t read the book but it looks like a complete weepy. I’m not sure I can stand to watch it. Just the trailer had me in tears.

They also did Harry Potter, which looks fabulous. I can’t wait. It’s going to be the baby’s first film. I’m hoping he’ll sleep through it. I’m also hoping they’ll let me in! But have you noticed during the silence is golden advert they have a ringing cellphone and a screaming baby? Which to me implies they expect you to bring babies – right?

Hope you’re all enjoying the start of summer and the long weekend.

Long time, no blog!

I kind of got out of the habit of blogging and then time rushed by and now I have posted for a month.

A lot has been happening though –

The baby is now the size of a watermelon. “I’m carrying a watermelon” (anyone know what movie that is paraphrased from?)

It is 3 weeks till he’s due. Which is scarily close.

We now have a new name in the running. So three possible picks. We’ll see what he looks like.

We had our childbirth class, with Yoda’s sister! Seriously apart from not being green, the women was his double. As T keeps reminding me “there is no try, only push” and “pain there will be”.

We had to move into the Holiday Inn for a week when the basement flooded and the drain had to be replaced. Not a fun time.

The Nursery furniture has still not arrived.

We finally found out we can move house. Not till July but the place is bigger and has a garden!

I kind of, sort of finished the book. In that it has a beginning, middle and end.

The weather has been rubbish. Where is the sunshine!!!

Hope you’re all having fun and doing well.

Perfect moment

This is a perfect moment. I just love things like this and I love Britain’s Got Talent. Although why is Piers Morgan still a presenter? Remind me of his talent again??

Lethargic

We had a lovely time in the Uk catching up with people and over indulging on Cadbury’s mini eggs and chocolate fingers. Although I don’t recommend flying at 28 weeks. It’s not the most comfortable of experiences.

I’ve been really lethargic since we got back. I’ve managed to keep up with the exercise and writing. The rest of the time I just want to flop on the sofa and read or watch Jon and Kate Plus 8 (which just makes me so glad I’m only having one!).

I have read some brilliant books though, including, for those of you who asked, The Forest of Hands and teeth – highly recommended. I plan to do a post of it on the book blog soon. When I stop being so lazy.

Glucose, Injections, Books and TiVo

Not much has been happening here. I have been editing and reading and book blogging. I have NOT been watching TV because TiVo broke.

It started by crashing if you fast forwarded it. So we had to watch the adverts, not good, adverts on the whole are dreadful. Then it just started crashing any old time (although it did feel like it was malevolently crashing at points of high drama and dramatic revelations). Then on Monday it crashed forever. Thankfully the new box arrived today in time for 30 Rock and BattleStar (only two episodes to go!!!!).

Today I had a delightful diabetes test at the Doctors. It involved downing a bottle of pure glucose an hour before the appointment. The downing was hard, keeping it down was harder. Yuck it was worse than Gatorade. Then I had to have my blood taken. Then, to add insult to injury, I had to have an injection! To combat the fact that I am Rh- and T is Rh +. It was a big needle, right in my hip and it really, really hurt. T found it hilarious and suggest I work on my pain management before June rolls round. On the plus side we got to hear the baby’s heart beat, which I always love.

My reward, for being so brave, was a decaf, skimmed latte with a cinnamon dolce shot at Starbucks and then Barnes and Noble. Where I treated myself to The Forest of Hands and Teeth – it is very, very good.

Wistful

I had the best time with my friend. We packed so much into three days and didn’t stop talking.

I was so sad seeing her off. I wish she lived closer but I’m grateful that being so far apart hasn’t changed our friendship. When we get together we’re exactly the same. We do put a lot of work into staying involved in each other’s lives though. It’s so easy when you don’t see people to drift apart and this weekend made me think I need to take more care of some other friendship before I lose those people.

Despite the freezing weather and today’s 4 inches of snow, we managed to see the sights and shop. We had several pit stops of coffee and cakes for me. Al thinks I am worse than her 11 month old for needing to be fed regularly – it’s not me though it’s the -4 month old. He kicks when hungry.

The only black mark on a lovely weekend was my parking ticket. Completely not my fault, honestly!

Apart from that, I had the best time and it’s only three weeks till we go to the UK.

A few photos of our visit.

Meeting Up and Baby News

Friday night I met up with some new blog friends. Lady Glamis and Lois. I met Lady Glam through Nathan’s writing contest. It was great to meet her face to face and talk about writing and books. I rarely have the chance to do that in person.

We went for seafood at Hank’s Oyster bar. One of my favourite DC restaurants and had a great time. It was lovely to meet you Glam and Lois and I’m glad you enjoyed your DC trip!

Anyone else fancy a trip to DC anytime soon?

***

Friday was also check up day at the Doctors. I am 25 weeks pregnant. How did that happen? It feels like two minutes ago I was double checking the box to see if a cross did indeed mean pregnant.

The baby is doing well. His heart beat is strong and he is moving about lots too. It’s an incredibly weird sensation. He has taken to kicking me awake in the morning. I think he must get hungry! I can’t imagine why, I am eating loads.

Tomorrow my BFF arrives from England. I can’t wait to hang out with her and go shopping for baby clothes. It’s going to be fun.

I’ll see you all next week.

Valentine’s Day

I hope you all had a lovely, heart strewn weekend or ignored it completely if, like T, you think it is crass commercialization. Event though he objects to Valentine’s day and being romantic to order, he does usually come up trumps.

So there were roses and truffles and a very yummy brunch at Hank’s, of crab cakes and pouched eggs.

We had to go out for brunch because the MIL arrived in the afternoon and also I tend to fall asleep in my soup course these days.

Yesterday we took her for an epic walk in Rock Creek Park, it was a beautiful day. Today they have gone off to Amish Country. Although I long to see the Amish I am exhausted and a two hours car trip was not appealing. So I am home alone catching up on my blogging, writing and housework (yuck!).

As to the question of quite I always use it as kind of, I think it is a polite british thing. Instead of pointing out anythings faults you qualify the good but saying quite. It was quite nice, she is quite pretty, this is quite good. The whole argument came about because an American friend called my brownies quite nice and I was what do you mean quite! Which lead to the whole what does it mean debate. Thanks for chipping in.

I took this off Melissa’s blog and I love it.
