Excitment and doubt May 12, 2008

Filed under: Who knows where this goes — marmiteandtea @ 8:11 pm

I was sitting here composing a post about how I can’t find a job I want to do and how I really don;t want to teach full time again but I may have to because I’m not really qualified to do anything else and office work may kill me.

Then I thought I better actually go and look for a job and I found a perfect one. So perfect, so so perfect.

Unfortunately I don’t quite match their criteria even though I know I could do it. So I have to write a really really, really good resume and I haven’t written a resume since I left Uni. My last job I got off the informal interview they gave me when I just popped in to see if I wanted to apply (apparently I interview well).

So if any of you have any tips for writing a stand out resume. Please let me know.

I found one that I would love to do (sadly, my boss would be so gorgeous (sp), would I get any work done?) It sounds fun and interesting, good hours, and very close to home. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
My last interview was 11 years ago, and I got the job.
I would get someone who does it professionally to do it for you (a job bank or something.) I had a woman at school do it (at professional services) and it’s beautiful.
    I STILL don’t think I would have one now if I hadn’t!
(Good luck, fingers crossed for you, too!)

That’s amazing that you found your perfect job! Best of luck with the resume. I can’t really give you a tip for a good resume (as I don’t want to give you bad advice) but a great job guide is What Color is Your Parachute (should be able to get it in a library) and Lisa’s suggestion is a really good one - give your resume to a career guidance person or similar and they’ll knock it into excellent shape. Good luck!!!

Hey, just being a Brit ought to do it. There have been studies that show Americans think British people are very intelligent and knowledgeable about good manners, even when evidence is to the contrary.

As long as you’re not applying for a job doing something redneck like gigging frogs, your resume will stand out in a good way, regardless of what you put on it. :-)

Lisa - excellent idea! I knew I would find the answer in the blogspere. I would never have though of getting someone to do it for me :)

Yvonne - thanks, even if I just got an interview it would be good because then I would know what they are looking for and do a better application for another job!

Bunnygirl - LOL! Well they are correct about the manners! maybe I can send my resume on tape ;)

    I think Lisa’s idea is great…

I also think that Bunnygirl is onto something. Make sure that your resume shows that you’re British. After that, call to make sure they recieved your resume… then they will hear your voice and you will be a shoe-in!!!
