Glucose, Injections, Books and TiVo

Not much has been happening here. I have been editing and reading and book blogging. I have NOT been watching TV because TiVo broke.

It started by crashing if you fast forwarded it. So we had to watch the adverts, not good, adverts on the whole are dreadful. Then it just started crashing any old time (although it did feel like it was malevolently crashing at points of high drama and dramatic revelations). Then on Monday it crashed forever. Thankfully the new box arrived today in time for 30 Rock and BattleStar (only two episodes to go!!!!).

Today I had a delightful diabetes test at the Doctors. It involved downing a bottle of pure glucose an hour before the appointment. The downing was hard, keeping it down was harder. Yuck it was worse than Gatorade. Then I had to have my blood taken. Then, to add insult to injury, I had to have an injection! To combat the fact that I am Rh- and T is Rh +. It was a big needle, right in my hip and it really, really hurt. T found it hilarious and suggest I work on my pain management before June rolls round. On the plus side we got to hear the baby’s heart beat, which I always love.

My reward, for being so brave, was a decaf, skimmed latte with a cinnamon dolce shot at Starbucks and then Barnes and Noble. Where I treated myself to The Forest of Hands and Teeth – it is very, very good.

  • Eeewgh to the hospital stuff.

Did you get the results? I tested postive for Glucose Intolerance during my first pregnancy. And it required a weekly blood test one hour after eating lunch for the rest of the pregnancy! Both my babies needed rhesus positive tests!

    Hope your tests were negative.

  • I’d love to hear about that book. It sound really interesting. That glucose stuff is awful. Hopefully you won’t have to do it again. I hate all those tests they do on you.

  • I hate shots in the butt!!!! =( I feel your pain and I don’t care what T says!!!! lol

When I was sick right before the cruise they gave me a shot in the butt/hip!!! =( It freaking HURT!!!!

We don’t even have TiVo so if we aren’t at home to watch whatever is on – we just miss it!!!! I was watching so of my favorite shows on the computer at work – while I sit here an hour waiting to start work!!!! lol

    HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!

I’m happy to hear a baby update!!!!! =)

  • I was Rh- too. And I had the Strep B thing, too. So lots of shots and complicated stuff all around. But in the end it was all good. :)

Tell us about that book! What a fantastic title. I’m already intrigued.

Glad you got your Tivo back!

  • Shots are evil – but on the same day as making you drink that glucose, well that’s just rude.

  • I’m glad you treated yourself – the tests and shot sound horrible. It’s great you got to hear the heartbeat though! Hope the book and Tivo cheer you up as well. And tell T it’s rude to laugh at his suffering wife! I think that allows you at least one more book purchase. ;)

  • Ugh, the glucose test totally sucks. But the scary thing is that the test? The stuff has as much sugar in it as a regular coke. Think about it.

  • I have my test on Monday… I hate that thing!

  • Lotusgirl – review will be on the book blog :)

Jeannie – I LOVE my TiVo I was lost without it.

MA – Haven’t had a strep test yet, not sure what strep is actually I’ll have to look it up! The book is so good.

Vic – Yup it really was and they took blood, bad day!

Angie – I completely agree with you :)

MelissaZ – I hate full fat coke so it was very painful, I could feel my teeth rotting.

GF – good luck, I feel for you.

  • Oh, I hated that stuff! Of course mine was like orange soda, which I hate.
Hey, our Barnes and Nobles have a Starbucks IN them!
(I love 30Rock, the best quote last week was Alec Baldwin’s: ‘Swearing and passing out on St. Patrick’s Day, is nothing sacred?!’)
